Our theme this time: Inductions!

IS Oxford Open Days are free of charge and available to all users. Our virtual events have no restrictions on numbers, so there is plenty of room for everyone!

We will be holding two sessions on Thursday 10th June. The morning session will be packed with ideas and advice, and the afternoon session will include a chance for users to ask questions (or just pick up more tips!). Each session will last one hour and be delivered via Zoom.

What to expect

The theme of this year’s Open Day is library inductions and and the promotion of library services to potential users.

During the pandemic library inductions have almost exclusively been held online rather than in person, and we will be examining the pros and cons of online versus face to face inductions, with suggestions of how to make introducing users to library services more engaging, convenient and informative using both a mix of face to face and online services.

We’ll be looking at the ‘gamification’ of inductions in particular, with opportunities for discussion around what works (and what doesn’t!).

IS Oxford have produced some short video tutorials to help library users navigate key tasks such as searching the catalogue or locating a particular resource. These will be offered free to existing users to help library users both at the outset and as they start to use the library more frequently.

Time-permitting, we will also be looking at ways of extending the reach of your library throughout your institution, via means such as offering a current awareness services and enabling colleagues in other departments to engage Heritage Cirqa in the management of resources that currently fall outside the library remit.
